Join us for Course Prep Week 2024: Hands On Curriculum Support for Faculty, May 8-10.
We hope that you will join us as we provide focused learning opportunities including course refresh, consultations with technology and pedagogy specialists, workshops on key aspects of course design and the opportunity to interact with your colleagues who are working on the same things.
The three day schedule for Course Prep Week is posted below. To register click on the Read More button next to the name of the sessions you are interested in. Coffee and snacks will be provided for you throughout the day, as will a quiet place to work, power for your devices, and access to the CIEL team. We encourage you to bring your lunch and enjoy some informal lunch time learning with colleagues.
All activities will take place in Building 305 on the fifth floor.

Course Refresh: Workshop
Whether you’ll be teaching a course for the first time (or the first time in a long time), or you know that you’ll be teaching a tried-and trued favourite, this is the perfect time of year to plan any changes you might want to make. We’ll kick the session off by identifying potential starting points, then move through some of the things you’ll want to keep front-of-mind when refreshing your courses.

Recharging Assessment: Workshop
Explore assessment design that supports student learning, while making your workload more manageable. In this session we will discuss ways to shift your practice to reduce the number of items you mark or grade, to provide better feedback. Learn how to integrate multiple avenues for feedback and reflection, including dialogue with students, peers, instructors and sometimes external experts or clients.

You are invited to:
- Draft or recharge your assessment plan.
- Sketch opportunities and avenues for feedback.
- Outline a rubric.
What can I expect?
Workshops
Workshops will address the following elements:
- What is it?
- How do I build it into my course design?
- How do I implement it in the learning environment ?
- What could go wrong? Troubleshooting tips.
Development Sessions
This is time set aside for you to work on your course(s) based on the workshop that precedes it (or anything else you want to focus on!). Suggested activities to guide your work will be provided. CIEL staff will be on hand to answer questions and support your work.
One-on-One Consultations
These can be booked with a technology specialist, a pedagogy specialist, or both. We can either extend the work you were doing on the previous two days or discuss another of your teaching and learning goals. In order to match you with the best staff member, we will ask you to share a bit about what you want to work on together.
